Quick Tips For French Makeover

Posted by jasnav on August 4, 2010

All interior designers would agree that the French style of decorating is here to stay. Spanning from French country to classic French, a lot of interior designers have fallen in love with this style. It has also evolved with the modern times. Here are some quick tips to make your home French-inspired.

Set Your Imagination Free

Arrange the furniture imaginatively. The pieces don’t have to be alike or part of a whole set and again, they also don’t have to be placed straight either.

Have at least one grand antique piece like painting or idol. It could also be a Louis chair or a fringed and tufted ottoman. Just fill the room with luscious drapes or upholstered furnishings.

To match the grandeur, grand lighting is also necessary. Make it dramatic as in an exotic looking chandelier, as nothing evokes the French feel more than a sophisticated chandelier.

Pictures, Memoirs, Memories

Put a photo collage in French golden frames along with candleholders of varying heights. Keep in mind that the background wall color should be white. Since the color is pure, it highlights the look.

Spanning from toile, chintz or chinoisserie, play with pattern and print. Place unique treasures and accessorize those items with a lot of history. Flaunt the utterly romantic look with tissue curtains and floral print valences.

Bring the County Inside

Design your dream home in a way that the look of the county is reproduced. Use subtle shades of green to add paintings and murals of vines and flowers to get a open country feeling right inside.

Huge French windows let lots of light inside, and work particularly well in cold climates. Use them to save electricity as well!

Sounds really exotic yet simple, isn’t it? A sure shot way to the French look is by combining all these ideas into practical solutions for your home.
