Patiala salwar kameez is still in fashion among women irrespective of their profession and age. The beauty of salwar kameez is that it can be worn as a formal as well as a casual wear. It’s the same case with patiala salwar kameez also. The free flowing pleated pants will give you a great look even with simple designs on the kameez.
As the patiala style is very comfortable, it can be worn as a casual dress to colleges and offices as well. Many college girls are now fond of patiala salwar kameez and it is the current fashion trend. The casual wear comes without embellishments where the salwar is made of printed chiffon material and a matching kameez. The kameez contains simple prints or designs without any stone or zardozi embellishments.
Party wear patiala salwaar kameez comes with a lot of embellishments in the kameez and dupatta. The dupatta is generally heavily loaded with kundhan stones and other costly crystals. When such a heavy dupatta is worn, it cuts out the need for any necklace around the neck. The matching kameez also comes with heavy embellishments, while the salwar is plain and simple with multiple pleats flowing beautifully. Mix and match is a common fashion among the teens where the same patiala salwar is matched with different kameezs’ and dupatta for a new look.
The highly embellished patiala salwaar kameez is worn by women for parties and especially during weddings. Wedding patiala salwar kameez contain zari work with zardozi crystal embellishments. This is very commonly seen in the weddings of the people of Punjab as it is the place of origin of patiala designs. Embroidery is also done in the kameez and dupatta with silver and golden threads. The material which is commonly used in wedding patiala salwar kameez is silk and dark colors like maroon, pink and majenta since these colors looks complements a bride’s gaudy look.

A lot of people like to wear interesting clothes, whichever sex they may belong to.
As brought out in one of my earlier posts, Patiala salwaars actually were used for a long time by males only in the erstwhile royal families.
