Sharara Salwar Kameez

Posted by jasnav on February 28, 2008

A new look in salwar kameez that is taking the market by storm is the sharara salwar. This type of salwar kameez is very famous among the young girls and is especially tried in special ceremonies like marriage. The style of the sharara salwar is such as to make it more of a designer wear and so most people avoid wearing it in their daily lives. These are reserved for the really important social functions where showing off the latest designs and fashion becomes a necessity!

The sharara salwars have really wide legs, much wider than the widest parallel pants or bell bottoms.  In fact they are so flared that they almost look like skirts. The pants are well fitted till the knees and are tied at the waist using a drawstring. From knee downwards, the pajama suddenly goes wide. The pants almost trail behind you, giving a very formal look to the ensemble. They may look utterly enchanting but can be tough to manage and can also get dirty very easily because they trail the ground throughout. That is one of the main reasons why these salwars are tried on formal occasions. The beautiful evening gown effect created by this piece is further enhanced by the lively colors and delicate fabric used in making them.

Some truly intricate designing and embroidery is often seen in this salwar kameez and so it can be more expensive than the usual ones. The tops are short and have either short sleeves or none at all. The neck, back and cut styles vary widely. The fabric of the shararas is very rich, adding to the high end look. The laces and embroidery are so attractive you want to get a custom made set for yourself. Wedding parties are the ideal occasions to wear these and make you stand out among the crowd.

Patiala Salwar Kameez

Posted by jasnav on February 27, 2008

One of the more traditional forms of salwar kameez is the Patiala salwar kameez. This type has some interesting history behind it. The garment is named after Patiala, a city in the North Indian state of Punjab. The dress was so called because in ancient times the king of Patiala used to wear baggy pants and tops that were full sleeved. The trend became so popular that women started copying it in their daily wear resulting in what is now known as patiala salwars. Just like the king’s pants, the patiala salwars are very loose and pleated. In fact the more baggy the pant is the better it looks.

The fall of the pleats is such as to give a beautiful draping effect. There is a lot of fluidity in the salwar’s look and women wear it with short and tight tops. The salwar has drawstring waist just like other salwars. For women with heavier bottom half, this design could do wonders as the extra weight is well hidden under the scores of drapes and pleats. This type is also very comfortable, especially in summer months when the loose fit allows one to keep cool. The patialas are more common among the women of North India, but they are definitely gaining in popularity throughout the country too due to their lovely look.

Women with short height can do especially well with this garment, particularly if they wear a kurta that hits above the knee. The kurtas could be long too for this type of salwar kameez, but to really show off the beauty of the bottom’s design, it is better to wear tops that are shorter. Also, the slits at the sides of the kurtas have to be long, sometimes up to the waist. The fabric, color and embroidery can be of varied types and depends upon the wearer’s style.

Parallel Salwar Kameez

Posted by jasnav on February 26, 2008

Salwar kameez is an ever popular garment among Indians. To generate more interest, designers keep thinking of innovative ways to wear it. The new styles and fashions ensure that women keep flocking to the markets in search of the latest designs. One of the new designs of salwar kameez that can at best be considered an updated and modified version is the parallel salwar kameez. This type is particularly popular in the young generation. The best part of this type of parallel suit is that it gives an almost corporate look to the traditional wear.

The salwars are designed just like any straight or parallel pants. The kameez may be short and fitted with a thin scarf like dupatta thrown over the shoulders or around the neck. This type is therefore perfect for office wear and gives a rather modern touch to the old apparel. Also known as the trouser or pant suit, the parallel salwar kameez may come with a narrow or wide belt. Also, unlike the usual salwars, there is no need of tying at waist to hold up; the parallel salwars have elastics, buttons and belts to make the job easier.

The parallel pants also have slits on the sides to make the wearer feel comfortable. Often, the pants are loose and wide at the bottom, almost like the bell bottoms of yesteryears. The flare of the pants can vary widely and depends upon the wearer’s style sense. There may be side chains too, to add more glamour to the pants. The tops are short and sleeveless in most cases. Different types of fabric and embroideries could be used on the top as well as bottom, both of which are color coordinated. Unlike the usual dupattas, these parallel suits have rather narrow duppatas which are color matched with the rest of the ensemble.

Churidar Salwar Kameez

Posted by jasnav on February 24, 2008

One of the types of salwar kameez is churidar salwar kameez. It is somewhat different form the traditional ones and has a different look and feel. In this kind of salwar kameez, the salwar or the pants are much tighter. They have tight fitting at the hips and continue like this all along the thighs up to the ankles. You could almost consider them to be leggings except, they may be made of cotton or silk.

Just like the other salwars, this one too is tied at the waist. The main advantage of this type of salwars is that it is not very baggy and so allows the wearer more freedom of movement. The tight fit ensures that you do not have to worry about the end of the pant getting dirty as they end just at the ankle. You also get more chance to show off your best designer footwear in this type of salwars. As the salwar in churidar types go below your knee, the fabric is bunched up and gathered at the lower leg and ankle. This means the actual length of these pants must be greater than the length of your legs. The crinkling and creasing at the ankle gives a unique look and also makes your legs look longer.

For this reason this type is very popular with tall girls who can show off their long legs with the tight fitted pants. The disadvantage of this type of salwar kameez is that it may be uncomfortable for those who prefer loose fitting clothes. Since the salwar must be skin tight, even the smallest weight gain might make it difficult for you to pull those shrunken leggings through your legs.

The top for this type can be of any type. You can let your fancy rule in the top section, though most women prefer wearing longer kameez with the tight churidars.
